Baldwin County Board of Education candidates campaigning in this month’s runoff election will meet on Tuesday, November 23 in a candidate forum hosted by Digital Bridges at the Knight Community Innovation Center.
Digital Bridges welcomes District 1 candidate Gloria Wicker, School Board Chairman Jeff McAfee and his District 5 challenger Wes Cummings for a question and answer session aimed at providing voters with the information they need to make an informed decision at the ballot box on November 30.
“Democracy is an institution built upon peoples’ ability to come together and discuss the issues that they are facing as a community,” Digital Bridges Director Heather Holder said. “It is imperative that voters come together and have a frank discussion about the direction they want this community to take in the coming years and decades.”
The November 23 school board forum will mark the fifth time this election season that Digital Bridges has invited local, state and national candidates to talk to community members in events that put a critical focus on the future of leadership in the Milledgeville-Baldwin County community.

Voters in Baldwin County's first and fifth districts will go back to the polls Tuesday, November 30, to decide a runoff between candidates vying for election to the local school board.
Incumbent Wilbur Manson faces Gloria Wicker in the runoff in Baldwin County's First District. And School Board Chairman Jeff McAfee and Wes Cummings will head to the rematch in the Fifth District. Read The Union-Recorder's coverage here.

22:45--Final Update: Baldwin BOE Districts 1 and 5 will go to run offs between Manson-Wicker and McAfee-Cummings, respectively; Kidd and Grant will head back to Atlanta in January; and John Barrow is one of few Dems to win a contested race in the US House.
Good night, it's been fun.
22:28--With all but UOCAVA votes counted, Kidd walks away with his first full term in the Georgia House.
21:53--After the dinner and dishwashing break, The Union-Recorder is calling the 25th Georgia Senatorial Race for Johnny Grant, Rusty Kidd holds a 250 vote lead in the 141st Georgia House race and the Georgia 12th's urban centers are coming out for John Barrow.
The SOS's website says there are plenty more votes to be counted in all three races.
20:43--TweetDeck is citing twitter problems on failed tweets.
20:00--First results from the Baldwin County Courthouse are coming out now.unionrecorder.com is reporting that Kidd leads early in the 141st District House Race.
The early numbers must be coming out of the South as the 8th Congressional District numbers are out before the 12th.
19:45--Here are some new links for the SOS website.

If you’re viewing this weblog today (Election Day 2010), I’d venture to say that you’re one of the active news consumers who is using the Internet to engage in the electoral experience, rather than simply waiting for the news media to deliver the results to you.
If that’s the case, I salute you. Thank you for being a part of the 10 percent of folks that will move this story along as it is unfolding. To contribute my own 1 percent to the conversation, I thought I’d write a post identifying the websites and other virtual places I’ll be visiting as the polls close and the numbers start rolling in.
For help with the background on the candidates and some of the ballot initiatives that voters will be deciding upon today, stick with the tried and true. The League of Women Voters publishes a non-partisan voting guide, with information about a good number of the candidates—though not all of them—that was adapted by the Atlanta Journal Constitution on their Georgia Politics Page. You can download a PDF of the guide by clicking here. Click here to access the guide to the Constitutional Referendums.
Once the polls close around 7 p.m. this evening--remember that the doors don't close at 7 p.m., they simply stop allowing people to get in line at that time--you'll want to start tuning your ear to the commentary and anecdotal evidence about voter turnout, exit polling, etc. Statewide, you'll want to stick with the big boys at the AJC--their political correspondent Jim Galloway is a good go-to and the AJC will no doubt be updating non-stop on their Elections Central Blog. For the more conservative-minded among us, Peach Pundit will surely be blowing the vuvuzela early and often this evening.
For Middle Georgia voters, The Telegraph continues to be the dominate voice in elections coverage. But for those of you who are not willing to wait for others to do the reporting for you, you're going to need to become familiar with the Georgia Secretary of State's Elections Division website. On the Elections Division website you can find the qualifying information of all the candidates running today, current voter registration statistics and current and past election results. From here, you can watch the results as the come in precinct-by-precinct.
But what will you do with this information? Share it on Twitter! In case you're not familiar, there are ongoing--and especially rigorous on election night--conversations about Georgia politics at any combination of hashtags including #GApolitics, #GAGOV, #GAGOP and any US Congressional District as delineated by #GA(insert district number). Despite Baldwin County being split between two Congressional Districts, I'll mostly be sitting on #GA12.
And if you'd like my recommendations on some good Georgia Tweeps to follow during the election night fray, I'll advise you to check out: @asheinin, @ajcgaelections, @gpbnews, @ewerickson, @gareport, @ATLunfiltered, @politicalinsidr and @twombax.
So there you have it, one man's ideas on a fun election evening spent in the warm glow of the computer screen. Please let me know how your experience goes.
:b I added the underlines to the links to help identify them more clearly.
Curious about how much money our candidates are raising for their races for the Georgia General Assembly? Candidates are required to provide those details to the State Ethics Commission of Georgia. You can search the database here.
Here are numbers generated from the reporting period that ended September 30th--candidates were not required to submit their reports until October 15th.
